Laminated Safety Glass
Laminated safety glass is used for the windshields of most cars and trucks. This special type of glass is made from two sheets of glass bonded together by a thin interlayer (or laminate layer) made from plastic.
A primary safety benefit of laminated glass is that it’s very strong and resists breakage. When it does shatter, laminated safety glass breaks into a spider-web pattern of small pieces. The plastic interlayer holds the shards in place so that bits of glass don’t fly around freely. Laminated safety glass also supports the roof and helps keep passengers inside the vehicle during an accident.
Some of the glass components of your car are made from special tempered safety glass. We have access to hard-to-find tempered glass replacement parts and can install any glass component of your vehicle.
Tempered Safety Glass
Tempered auto glass is a type of safety glass that resists breakage. It’s several times harder than regular glass. Tempered glass undergoes a process during which it is heated to a very high temperature, then quickly cooled. This method changes the molecular composition of the glass, greatly increasing its hardness. In addition to being less breakable than regular glass, tempered safety glass shatters differently. When it’s struck with sufficient force, tempered glass shatters into small, rounded pieces that are less likely to cause injury.
If the damage is severe, we’ll make a clear recommendation that your windshield needs to be replaced. But when repair is sufficient for your auto glass damage, you’ll save time and money.
Minor windshield damage should be repaired as soon as possible after it happens. Small nicks and cracks can be fixed, reducing visible signs of damage and improving visibility for the driver. Our windshield glass repair service prevents cracks and other damage from spreading. Don’t wait for cracks to expand across your windshield.
The Auto Glass Repair Process
Repairing your windshield starts with drilling into the damaged area to the interlayer. We then inject a special clear resin, which is “cured” with a high-powered ultraviolet light. This resin is incredibly strong and significantly reduces the appearance of damage. Windshield glass repair restores the structural integrity of your windshield, making your car safer to drive.
